Coastal Task Force

 

 

Savannah Fire and Emergency Services has partnered with GEMA to take part in establishing the Georgia Search and Rescue (GSAR) Coastal Task Force. This task force will be trained and equipped to respond to regional and statewide incidents involving WMD/terrorist events. The Coastal Task Force will operate two Heavy Rescues and one support unit; one will be staged in the City of Savannah and the other in Camden County, Georgia. The Coastal Task Force is just one of the three specialized teams that are being established in Georgia. GSAR Metro Task Force is located in the Metro Atlanta area, GSAR Central Task force is Located in Central Georgia area, and GSAR Coastal Task Force is located in the Coastal area. These task forces are being established with grant funds from the Office of Domestic Preparedness.

The Coastal Task Force includes personnel from numerous local fire departments and organizations throughout the coastal area. To include Savannah Fire and Emergency Services, Camden County Area, Pooler Fire and Rescue, Hinesville Fire Department, Statesboro Fire Department, 165th National Guard Fire Department (Savannah Airport Fire), and Tybee Island Fire Department.
